After the separation of Trip Shakespeare, Minneapolis natives Dan Wilson and John Munson conjugated up with drummer Jacob Slichter to form Semisonic in 1995. An initial EP, Pleasance, was released that class and the studio full-length Great Divide in 1996 on MCA. It was their sophomore movement, Tactual sensation Strangely Fine, that was Semisonic's major breakthrough in 1998. The album yielded classical pop hits such as "Shutting Time" and "Secret Smile" and propelled the ring into megastardom. They didn't consume anytime with a follow up either. All About the Chemistry, the band's third album, was issued in early 2001 and single "Chemistry" was a linchpin overseas, however the album didn't fair as well in America. "Over My Head" was fitting for the 2001's adolescent riff "Summertime Catch" and Semisonic rode the wave of versatile tours in and around the U.K. By fall, Semisonic contributed their plow of the Wings graeco-Roman, "Jet" for the Paul McCartney Tribute CD, Listen To What The Man Said. Dan Wilson too took prison term kO'd to do some solo stuff, playing a slue of dates round the Midwest in December. His pal Matt aquiline up with Semisonic's John Munson to shape the side project, The Flops in 2001.
